OUR COUNSELORS

A small practice, by design.

At The Well Counseling LLC is a deliberately small, virtual practice. You'll always know who you're talking to, and you'll never be just a number on a schedule. We believe healing happens when people are met with clinical excellence, compassion, and hope, and for those who want it, the living water Jesus offered at the well.

Stephen Howerton

MA, LPCA, NCC, CTP, CGP, ADHD-CCSP · Founder

Before I ever sat with a counseling client, I trained in crisis counseling, and it taught me something I still carry into every session: the first conversation matters. When someone finally reaches out, they deserve to be met with steadiness, warmth, and hope.

Hope is at the center of how I work. My heart is for people walking through grief and loss, and I'm a Certified Grief Professional. Additionally, I have extensive specialized training in perinatal mental health, including pregnancy loss and postpartum depression. I'm honored to serve as a preferred therapist for a local reproductive health practice. I also work with anxiety, depression, trauma, and divorce, and I provide adult ADHD assessments.

My work draws on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) to help you change unhelpful patterns, and on psychodynamic therapy to understand where those patterns began, all grounded in mindfulness and trauma-informed care. As a Christian, I'm glad to bring faith into our work if you'd like: prayer, Scripture, or simply asking where God is in your story. If you'd rather keep things secular, you are just as welcome here.

Specialties: Grief & loss · Pregnancy loss · Postpartum depression · Trauma · Anxiety · Divorce · Adult ADHD assessment

Individual sessions: $70

Grief and loss group: $50

Melissa Derrenbacher

I help adults find their footing again when depression, relationship struggles, or the stress of work start to take over. Whether you're feeling stuck, disconnected, or simply worn out, you deserve a place to slow down and be understood.

As a certified DBT clinician, I teach practical skills for managing intense emotions, communicating with the people who matter most, and building a life that feels worth living. Like Stephen, I'm a person of faith, and I'm glad to bring it into our sessions whenever you'd like, or to keep things secular if you prefer.

Specialties: Depression · Relationship issues · Job-related stress · DBT skills

Individual sessions: $100
